Root Canal Treatment

Root canal therapy otherwise known as endodontics is required when the nerve present in a tooth has been permanently damaged. The nerve may have been damaged by decay, trauma, gum disease and very occasionally a crack in a tooth. Damaged nerves can become infected, and are the cause of dental abscess.

During root canal therapy, the nerve or remnants of the nerve are painlessly removed, and a filling is placed in the nerve cavity to prevent reoccurrence of the abscess. This treatment provides an alternative to extracting the tooth.
